What Is Health Psychology?

Health psychology seeks to examine the relationship between both physical and emotional health.  Health psychologists are trained to take the biological, psychological, and social factors that impact each individual’s health and wellness into account throughout treatment.  Whether an individual is managing a chronic health condition, a new diagnosis, or seeking to lose weight or quit smoking, health psychologists are highly trained to take a whole person approach in their treatment.  Health psychologists have the necessary expertise to assist individuals in making health behavior changes using research-supported approaches.  Health psychology focuses on the mind-body connection in individuals managing disability or illness.
