About Dr. Megan Clarke
I was born in Connecticut and began pursuing a career in psychology following several years of teaching. I completed my Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology as well as a certificate in Health Psychology at the University of Connecticut. There, I worked under Dr. Amy Gorin in the Weight Management Lab, examining the relationship between mental health and health behaviors throughout various life transitions, including the transition to college and the transition to motherhood. My dissertation project focused on relationships between mothers and infants in the postpartum period, and maternal mental and physical health. As a mother of young children, I have an intimate understanding of the challenges and transitions associated with parenting.
Prior to pursuing my doctoral degree, I earned a Master’s degree in Mind, Brain and Education from Harvard University where I studied theories of multiple intelligence and the role of emotional intelligence in learning and school readiness under Drs. Howard Gardner and Kurt Fischer. Additionally, I worked in Harvard’s Lab of Developmental Studies investigating how infants perceive and reason about the world around them as a research assistant with Dr. Susan Carey.
I completed my predoctoral internship at Connecticut Valley Psychology Internship and River Valley Services in Middletown, Connecticut. I also pursued an additional year of training as a postdoctoral resident in Health Psychology at VA Connecticut Healthcare with a joint appointment at the Yale School of Medicine.
I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the Connecticut Psychological Association, both the National Chapter and the Connecticut Chapter of Postpartum Support International, The Obesity Society, and the Society for Behavioral Medicine. Additionally, I am an Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at the University of Connecticut.
